Rotella has a SN rating, so works fine for gasoline engines. Double check the bottle you get with your owners manual page.
.
The T6 has been used for a long long time in many many communities and is established, including motorcycles so no debate really. The only debate would be for new users and if it's another brand of diesel oil.

The SN was removed a few years ago from the T6. According to some of the Bob The Oil Guy posts from people who had contacted Rotella, the formulation didn't change just the new packaging and label. Amazon use to sell the two and differentiate them as "Old Stock" vs "New Stock" T6.

I believe it was removed so the SN but now SP could be used on the Rotella Gas Truck to increase overall market share of the gas Car & Truck owners, who wouldn't otherwise try diesel oil in gas vehicles. I tried the Gas Truck and didn't care for it so went back to T6.

Thanks for the info on the oils. Much appreciated. The Rotella Gas Truck oil is out of stock everywhere here. Maybe the product has been pulled in Canada for some reason??

As I do my oil once a year, the cars can manage on Castrol Edge oil for the <6000km they do. Heck, the R did about 500km last year and has done about 100km this year before disgracing itself!

I have a fair amount of 5W-40 Castrol oil so will use that for the oil change.

I drove home a new-to-me 2001 V70XC. It had one previous owner (family friends who bought it in August 2000), and about 20 years of dealership only maintenance before receiving less care the past three years. I drove it 500 miles home. The odometer worked sporadically, it registered about 150 miles over the trip. The speedometer stopped working 3 different times. I had two disturbing "clunks" in the transmission (I think)...which I believe were connected to when the speedometer stopped working. Both times I was going around 70 mph. Cruise control does not work. ABS light is on. The engine fan would not turn off when I stopped the car. When I finally got home, I just unplugged the fan under the hood. The stopped getting it repaired when they were told a new control head module for the AC/Heat would cost $895, plus labor.

The car rides and runs well. 201000 on the odometer. It's a totally different beast from my 98 V70. From what I have read briefly here, I'm thinking I may need to send the Climate Control and instrument cluster to Xemodex or others for repair? My insurance company emailed and said there is an open recall on the driver's side airbag. I live about an hour from a dealership...I'm thinking I take it in for the airbag repair, and have a thorough review of what else needs to be done to the car?

This thing is awesome: AWD still operates. Leather interior, jump seat in the back, doggy/cargo gate still in the original plastic, and a Volvo branded luggage carrier and cross bars for the top!

Any advice on where to start with these electronic gremlins, or immediate mechanical things to assess unique to this model?

Dash for me was the typical issue of defective DIM. Dave is well known though he has a home business. A few have used him here including myself. Best price also.

The fan not turning off was a weak battery. The weaker the more prone to create electrical gremlins / glitches. After changing to a newer used battery from another Volvo the fan would stay on for about 2 minutes and shut off on a hot day accordingly.

Get a code reader and check. Although I don't have any dash lights I know there is a code that indicates the alarm module under the front passenger fender needs to be replaced. That alarm module will affect the operation of the sunroof.

Do a drain and fill of the transmission. With just 3.7 qts there was a noticeable difference in acceleration. I've been using Havoline for quite a few years and have gone through 4 cases in Honda, Lexus and Volvos.

Change the motor oil to 15W40 for summer and 5W40 for winter.

Get it to Volvo and get VIDA hooked up

The 2001 has a neutral stop software feature that has probably been removed, which is a good thing.

Definitely a drain and fill on that trans

This fine Volvo appears to have had 20 years of dealer service and 3 years of neglect. You could do a lot worse.
Several drain and fills on the transmission will likely give good results.
If you don't need/ want to use the sunroof and don't care about the alarm, you can just ignore it.
It must have a strong battery or you will get weird codes.
See if the ETM has been upgraded.
Check plug gaps - they may be too wide if no service for 3 years. Coils may need replacements if you get misfires.
Inspect all vacuum hoses.
I have owned a 2001 V70 T5 for 10 years and 60K miles.

S60- Did a transmission drain and fill and changed my serpentine belt and tensioner. Swapped and flipped my steering end stops to opposite sides in order to prolong life. Need front pads and rotors but can probably go another year. Found sidewall damage on one of my tires so I rotated my tires in anticipation or having to replace that.

Careful with that drain plug, it’s 24mm but I overtightened it last time and had to use primitive methods to loosen it. I should buy a new plug.

Much of my time during the job is spent hauling things up and down the stairs to the basement or in and out of the storage shed, or running back downstairs when I realize I need something else,or taking a break from standing out in the sun,or using flashlights or work lamps when it gets dark.

Going to have to address my 2007 S60 2.5T one of these days. The turbine shaft is loose and lots of oil. Did you do a write up or use another link somewhere for reference? If so can you provide that?
