The 2006 S60 2.5T needs new tires, 215-55-16.

Any advices for the "best bang for the bucks"?

Discount Tire list the following prices (does not include installation costs):

- Sentury Touring $66/each
- Ironman $79/each

- Nexen $94/each
- Laufenn $98/each

- Hankook $108/each
- Kumho $113/each

- Continental $125/each

Except for Sentury Touring, those are all manufacturers and not specific models. Every manufacturer sells a huge range of models, with different durability, comfort, handling features. Your question about those tires on the list can't be answered.

Discount tire houses generally cannot compete with Costco or Sams Club for tire pricing and speeds of moving inventory. You're less likely to get old date codes from a retailed that moves quickly through inventory.

This formula has been very reliable for me:
- trust the tirerack.com ratings
- choose what level/grade/class tire you want buy in at
- buy from the big box stores so you don't end up with a junk tire

The only tire I can remember regretting buying was Continental Extreme Contact DWS. I bought them based on rave reviews on the fora and the internet. Fantastic tire, loved having it on the 06 S60 R, but just dismal longevity.

FYI...

I posted the thread above to see what everyone uses for their cars these days.

I don't use Costco any longer, just overpriced!

You can't go wrong putting Michelins on a Volvo sedan or wagon. I wouldn't know about the SUVs. But, they're expensive.

Don't touch Ironman. They're a Chinese knock off of a Chinese knock off. I had the sidewall just melt right off of one on my C70, thanks a lot CarMax. The puddle of tire was on the side of I-95 @ US-3 for months, and that's a bad place to be waiting for a tow.

I just put a pair of Uniroyal Tiger Paws on my 2000 V40, we'll see how they do. So far, I like them a lot. Quiet, compliant, middle of the road pricing, and as grippy as a 1.9T grocery getter needs them to be.

May I suggest the General Altimax RT45 225 /55 R16 95H SL BSW. Have them on a 2020 Tiguan S FWD and up sized from 215/65R17 to 225/65R/17. The difference in size is minimal but ride comfort increase is phenomenal. Have them on the 08 C30 T5 and up sized also from 215/45ZR18 to 225/45ZR18. Again, very smooth and quiet besides improved handling. Both sets were installed less than a year ago. The Generals are Discounts best selling tires.

The 06 S60 and other S60 tire sizing can vary quite a bit depending on model so going with the 225/55/16 will increase longevity, comfort besides handling.

Our 07 S60 came with 205/55/16. Went ahead and put on a set of 235/45ZR17 though haven't driven on them but it was OE sizing from another S60 T5. Our 09 S60 2.5T AWD has Kumho 235/45/17 and they are pretty stiff.

Have 17" Conti DWS on the 05 Lexus GS430 and they are stiff and lack center and road feel. We had 16" Michelins on our 03 Lexus GS300 and though a lighter car and smaller tires the comfort and road handling was overall smoother.

I switched from V rated to H. The H ride is more supple with no downside for my driving style.
