2004 XC70. Had windshield replaced and the two cowl end caps and sealing foam disintegrated when windshield tech. removed. Had some water dripping on passenger side onto cabin floor before replacement. Tried recommended solutions including flushing roof window front drains.
Have ordered two new end caps (Volvo calls then Roof Drip Moldings) and a piece of foam called also called Roof Drip Molding. The old foam was about a 3/4” cubic piece. The end caps fit around either end of the windshield cowl.
There appeared to more sealing foam that came off in that area.
Can anyone tell me how to install new foam piece and other foam that I might need? Might the disintegrated old foam have been the source of the leak? Do the end pieces channel water?

I chased a leak there for a while. First off, cut off a piece of plastic from say a vinegar 4L bottle or windshield washer fluid bottle and cover the intake damper with it but not in such a way it will restrict air. Difficult to describe.
Also, instead of buying foam I just used some foam pipe insulation from the store and sort of dressed it around that little coupler that does a poor job of sealing water there. As well as caulked it. There is a 2 hour peppermint youtube video on this subject showing both tricks.
The final leak source was found as a result of a windshield replacement. They didnt use enough of the adhesive so it was leaking through that. I bought a tube of polyurethane and went to town on making a bead there. No more leaks.
My leaks were not obvious at first. Best way to leak search is to remove all carpets, glove box, and get a hose draped and running over that side of the car and windshield. Let it run a half hour while you have lunch then go back with a flashlight.
Both of my roof drip rail moulding pieces were destroyed in this process and havent been replaced in 2 years. I don’t believe they actually do anything to help, except channel water closer towards the drain.

Much of my time during the job is spent hauling things up and down the stairs to the basement or in and out of the storage shed, or running back downstairs when I realize I need something else,or taking a break from standing out in the sun,or using flashlights or work lamps when it gets dark.
