But like jonesg says, I use them so infrequently it is hard to justify buying yet another bulky tool to store. My mechanic buddy bought one of Amazon that looks similar. We spent about half an hour modifying it to make it work as the parts did not fit together out the box.

However, I felt a lot more confident using it than the 2 versions I have. I just had to do the 02 XC70 struts recently and without access to the fancy tool went back to the cheap threaded tools. Used all 4 of them as the springs are hard to compress on this car. I did use large re-useable zip-ties to circle the tools to try to prevent them slipping off the spring coils. Worked well. I'd still rather have this tool though.

It is up there with a hydraulic press, but for the same reason I don't have one. Storage space and lack of use.

Yeah, I have way to many tools, I confess :)

Back to trying to clear the workbench. Have to make space to tackle the Dyson vacuum trigger issue.

Cleaned the stuff from the last junkyard run. So the LH and RH rearview mirrors, the 2 x window master switches (who knew the 2004 is one year only, there is an 01-03 and an 05-09). Takes more time trying to identify items and specifically part numbers on newer cars. Far too many variations for sure.

Also repaired the broken mounts for the lower drivers door trim on our friends 06 S60. Not easy to replace as it is painted body color, not just the plain grey ones naturally! Clips arriving Wednesday from England from Vehicleclips.co.uk. Worth checking out for Euro car clips.

Ordered these last Tuesday and here in Western Canada supposedly Wednesday this week. Pretty good. About the same time to order parts from on-line Canadian dealers and a fraction of the cost!

Tried to work on the heater hose but can't get the intake pipe out. Can't get the PTC nipple PCV vacuum line off. Anyone have any tips for this?

any of the PCV related vacuum lines are going to be pretty much heat-fused on if they've been on for years. When I did my PCV on my XC70 this summer I ended up using a cheap set of picks from Harbor Freight to lift and provide some slack on the vacuum lines while twisting and pulling the hose off with a pair of pliers (making sure not to crush the PTC nipple end). Soapy water + a blunt-tip syringe or a cotton swab can also help for lines that are really stuck on there.

If there isn't a Harbor freight equivalent in your area in the Philippines, there are tons of dirt cheap options on Amazon if you search for "automotive pick set"

Finally becoming fed up enough with the extremely bizarre issue going on with my 07 XC70 that I'm probably going to make a thread on the issue.

Long story short, something is going on with the connection between the computer module box and the engine fuse box that frequently causes the glow plug fuse to blow and cause a no start condition. I'm pretty sure it's killed two of my coils and I'm hesitant to buy nice new ones as I suspect they'll just get damaged as well. The issue is temporarily "fixed" if you shake the computer housing back and forth enough times or spray contact cleaner down the slots the modules sit in.

Does anyone know a trick to remove the computer modules without the forking out for the ridiculous special tool for it?

I think someone has discussed how to remove computers using screwdrivers? Also, there may be the special tool available as a loaner from some MVS member.
Search MVS.
