I will be working on one of these in the next few days. Not planning to disassemble, but I do have to replace the broken flap on the RHS servo motor flap. My ex-Volvo mechanic friend is then coming over to clean the evaporator now he has access so we can see it's condition. He drained the system of refrigerant in advance incase the evaporator is bad. In that case the whole think has to come out.

Good luck!

Neil.

Hi abscate,

I thought about this and a possible solution/fix?

If you ever turn the heat up on your controls into the red where it is maximum heat coming out maybe if in that position for some time the excessive heat from that position might cause the old rubber on these flaps to soften? If so then when it cools down it sticks in place.

Maybe, just give it normal time to warm up without max heat and put a floor mix on the controls so the flaps are partially open as you suggested? Myself I usually keep the controls on Automatic and the temp around 78 F.

Again I am no mechanic. Just trying to find affordable fixes or preventive maintenance for problems on my wagon.
