Yeah I debated this with myself :) I don't track it, it doesn't tow anything and it is a daily driver and mostly highway miles. I'll take a peek at the RN pan solution but that is going to have to wait, I'm really anxious to wrap up this activity. It has taken a lot of time and I'm trying to contain the scope.

Do you have a clutch by now? The R clutch seems to be NLA and roght now noone carries a standard Turbo clutch either, as it seems. Just mentioning tjis so you don't throw away the old clutch assembly from the donor car and rather kep it and have it rebuilt in case the clutch shortage is not only temporary.

I do, I managed to get one last year and I also got a spare :) So should be good for a bit.

To close this out. Car is back on the ground and under its own power with the manual transmission. I set out to do this at a leisurely pace since I had another car to drive while doing this project. Car went up on stands in Sept. and completed on Dec. 29. I used new everything where I could and also did the major maintenance items while doing this (timing belt, waterpump, etc.). I was a little worried about the transmission since it was a junkyard unit from a '98 S70 T5 M and didn't know if it was good or not. I have a Volvo 240 with a manual M47 swap and I have to say the civilized way the hydraulic clutch works is amazing over the mechanical M47. The R is a completely different car with the manual transmission. I have a Vast 850 R Euro manual tune in it. This wasn't a hard task just a lot. Everything fits the way it should and all I'm awaiting is a new shift boot before I put the shift know back on to complete the interior. I used a 3D printed insert that was mentioned somewhere on this board to fit into the center console. The only thing I didn't do was I missed the wiring for the PnP switch, greed and green/red connected together to get it to start. Other than that it worked as planned. Thanks for all the help along this journey.

To you and all those that have done this major swap, I am in awe! Well done sir. Now you just need to get the engine tuned and modded like a guy I met here in Calgary. His 850R is putting out around 500 bhp with the manual swap!

Thanks! You don't undertake small work yourself, the dash in any car scares me. As for the tune, the Vast tune will be sufficient for me, like to keep it as stock as possible. One other note, your emergency brake becomes exposed if it isn't quite up to the job on a manual, won't hold on my driveway. So did an adjustment today :)

I never fail to be amazed how often I get told how bad not just P80 but P1 and P2 parking brakes can be. Only issues I have are lack of servicing and love for the systems. No one services them and then wonder why they don't work?? Go figure.

On a manual it is key of course to have working parking brakes!

With 90% of the North American market being AT (I made that number up) my guess is the only time the hand/emergency/parking brake gets used is at inspection or on sale.

Then you find everything is bound up and its not usable.

The other gotcha is people adjusting the brake at the handle (like P2 cars) which is a no-no on the P80 platform - you adjust at the wheel, with the car up in the air. I find annual inspection a great time to have this done and have my independent make a few bucks on my $10 inspection fee.

Correct - Stop, foot on service brake, set parking brake , Shifter to Park, release service brake.

Incorrect - Stop, Throw into park, release service brake, set parking brake
