Hi. I have a 2009 S80 Gen2. It has an oil leak and when I checked where it was coming from, it originates from this pipe that goes from the engine into the dash of the car on the left side. The oil puddles and eventually runs out so it is a somewhat major leak.
The pipe has a sponge like an old fashioned bath sponge around it, soaked wet with oil. Wtf.
What is going on? Can I stop the leak and how?
Pic 1 - The red oval is the location of the sponge
Pic 2 - Closeup of the sponge. It is soaked with oil and drips.
S80 Gen 2 2009 strange oil leak, looks like a sponge dripping oil

I don't have a gen 2 S80, but from this photo it looks like a firewall component, maybe soundproofing material. Looks like some sort of foam. Maybe it has fallen down... but it looks molded to conform to the piece on its left. Guess: cam seal is shot.

Can you repost the photo without the red dot? It masks what’s going on there.
I think those lines going to the firewall are coolant for the heater core, and I’d guess the insulation is on the hot one. Smart engineers wanting a hot heater in winter so they insulate the line.
Like Matt I think that is an accumulation but not the source. Need to find the leak. Best to clean everything off then start seeing where it starts again. If oil is getting sprayed up there and is a turbo car I would check there.
