Re: What did you do to your Volvo today?
Thanks ingenious! I'd be interested in seeing the circuit inside and to hear more about how it works. Is the round / domed button on the end the switch to send the read / erase signals?

Right on the money, that's what that button is. I'm going to spend time figuring out the codes and learning to reset the service light over the week, maybe next weekend.
If you think it would help people out, I based this design on something I found on a different thread from 2013 viewtopic.php?t=60660 . Would it be better to make a new thread or update that old one?

Yes it can be done, but depends on your definition of "...easily..."

I've seen people install airbags inside the rear springs for extra weight capacity. Not sure if that would improved the ride.

Today, I was roped in to help my single mum friend replace the rear washer pump for the tailgate wiper. I had found 3 motors I had 'serviced' a few years ago, and tested them again and they all worked immediately. So I said she could have one of those as finding aftermarket motors seems to becoming a challenge with most resellers are either no longer selling them, or they are out of stock/back order.
Been a while since I last did one, but I recall it can be a pain as if they have been in a long time they get stuck in the rubber sealing grommet. To make room, I tried to remove the filler tube for the washer bottle. That had become stuck and was a fight to remove. Why, again did it have to be stuck in such a tight space? Anyway, with minimal cursing, it came out and testing the replacement it proved the motor had jammed. Re-assembled and all good. Car seems to be running well, the repair shop replaced the new radiator under warranty as it had developed a pin-hole leak. They also replaced a tired hose, and then had to order replacement radiator mount bushes from Volvo as they are on back order with Volvo classic. They'll fit those when they arrived. All for no charge! Good on them for standing up and being counted!
No sooner had my friend left, and then 30 minutes later my young trainee pilot friend (technically he has now flown solo!) turned up with his poorly 06 V50 T5 AWD manual. Sounds like a tractor as the flex pipe has cracked and he has been waiting for an aftermarket sports system to arrive. I have volunteered NOT to swap that over!
However, he had a RHS engine mount that was poorly, a new PCV cap to replace, replacement rear caliper springs (to replace the wrongly fitted aftermarket items). Lastly the rear swaybar end links were bad on his IPD rear swaybar.
We fixed them all while having a laugh. All that is left to do mechanically is the rear shocks, possibly a starter motor (reluctant when engine is warm), and the muffler. A year ago he was wanting to dump the car and run, now he loves the car. Amazing what a bit of patience and repairs can do!
Neil.

My parents had one of these in red. One of 2 Volvos they returned to Volvos as 'problematic'. They had wiring issues including electric mirrors that would go on fire!
The other was a 1982 Volvo 340 that had paint that fell off within a year of being bought new!

Turned a grade 10.9 alignment bolt into a bolt'nt yesterday laying on the snow.
Had a whoopsie in the XC and bend the track rod, ordered one from a Volvo dealer quoting 2/1 delivery only for them to email me saying 4-8 week backorder. Off to the parts cars I went.

So as much as possible my family has one guy do all the paint for our cars.
His condition to work on the 850 is we enter a car show. Split labor and materials as well as entry fee
That gives me a few months to gather parts, essentially every door/body/exterior clip and gasket and right now it's a tad overwhelming. For parts like that what would be the best place to check? Is GCP legit?
