2008 S80 3.2l Engine swap issue- HELP
I have a 2008 S80 3.2l that needed a new engine. I purchased a used engine from I believe a 2012 S80 3.2l (but that info can not be verified). The problem I ran into is the old engine has 2 sensors on the 2 part exhaust manifold, and 2 sensors for what I am guessing is the Camshaft position sensor or VVT solenoid. The new engine only has one exhaust manifold sensor and does not have a camshaft position sensor in the same place (right below the #1 spark plug on the left hand side). My question is am I still able to use the new engine and if so do I need to take parts off the old engine and replace on new engine? Any help would be very much appreciated. I apologize if I have not described the issue in enough detail or used the correct nomenclatures.

The engine should have a serial number on it. Stamped and usually on a label on the timing cover.
If you can find that, a dealer should be able to ID the engine age.
Back to your question. I can't answer that. Volvo made changes on the 2010 engine year on the 3.2 engine and there was also a trans change on the AWD version. I don't know about the FWD version though.
As to if you can swap the relevant parts over it may be possible and still getting the engine to work. If there are mounting points where you can swap stuff over it may be possible, but if it is a pick up like a cam or crank position sensor it may or may not work. I would look to the part numbers on the parts in question and see if they are the same. If they are you have much better chance of it working out.
Neil.

You can absolutely use a new engine but you will need to keep some parts from the old engine, especially the sensors and exhaust system.
