What did you do to your P2 Volvo today?

Ok, but imagine you get new bolts, and a week later you have to drop it again, lets say your replacement part was defective and necessitates the subframe be dropped. What do you do? I do plan to buy new bolts, but imagine a week later my new rack or whatever is bad and I have to do something anew.

Compare length to a new bolt. Replace if stretched too much. But really, they survive a few reuses.

I hear you. I would re-use them. Sometimes I wonder if Volvo use this as a safety issue, like lower strut bolts, and caliper bolts. I think it is where bolts are supplied with thread locker, the expectation is repairers may not use new thread locker and the bolts could come loose.

The only bolt I 100% replace is the retaining nut and bolt on the ball-joint of a P80. That bolt where we live tends to get corroded and the nut supplied is a locking nut. Those I don't like re-using.

The other option is to re-use the old ones for a few weeks to makes sure everything settles, and then replace them when it looks like all is good.

I rewarded myself for coming in well under budget on SWMBOs XC90, ( budgeted 15k, spent 11500 with travel and delivery ) … by having Munch auto do my nasty growler front right wheel bearing fir two hours of labor. It’s been growling since June/July 2024, about 6k ago. The old bearing feels all gritty on turning. I wish I lived in Iowa where bearings never fail.

Tomorrow I may have at the electrical installation. For a while now, I've had misfires especially when the engine is cold, usually they register across all cylinders, and while all coils are new, none are the same brand.

I am getting codes ECM-3320 and ECM-3200. Since swapping coils does not seem to affect these, I believe the issue is a problem with the installation. When I had initially tested the signals with a oscilloscope, indeed cylinder 3 was odd, the feedback signal was occurring later, than it should, almost as if I was registering a signal from a different coil. E.g we had the ignition event, but no immediate feedback. Instead it was shifted quite a few milliseconds later. The other coils looked normal, ignition event and feedback at the same time.

I would replace all connectors if they were cheap enough and actually available in Europe. But this won't help with the otherwise crumbling electrical installation.

Volvo exhaust is the best and the longest living. You can go with cheap options from Poland, but they tend to rust/burn in a few years.

This will be perfect for my kid, I don’t expect this car to last beyond four years lol…but Volvos sometimes surprise.

Doing a long shot on the 05 XC90 2.5T today. Been dripping oil on the passenger side. When the timing belt/water pump, etc was done last year did cam seals in hope that was it. A bit frustrated my Indy didn’t investigate deeper to see if it was crank seal, but I did not ask him to. It’s coming from under the timing belt cover somewhere. Did cam seals as I saw oil up top.

So…changed oil with 8oz of AT-205 and Castrol Edge 10w30 HiMi in hopes it would at least slow things down a little. 205k miles and a little rough so just trying to get another few years out of this one for my kid at college. Last oil change of Valvoline 5w30 HiMi over winter didn’t help any. May have to resort to a proper fix next time it is at the shop.

Also changed what the Brits would call a “manky” Intercooler hose that connects to the pipe over the engine…soft and gooey…no leaks but needed changed.

My papa always told me that I=V/R. After disconnecting all coils and measuring pin 4 12v I see a 11ohm short to ground.

14.5v when engine on/11 ohms = 1.31 amps or 20 watts of energy dissipated. To ground. So since this isn't coils I will have to see what else might be connected to this 12v supply. The PTC preheater labeled 9/32 is what is 11 ohms. But not a short. At which point I am flabbergasted.

All other pins for the coils measure exactly 0 0hms toward the ecm(I removed it and tested each part of the breakout box).

Had my Thor wheels powder coated at the beginning of December and they are sitting waiting on the warmer weather when I change over from my winter wheels. Today I gave the a coat of Gtechniq C5 Wheel Armour in the hope they are a little easier to clean.

Did and passed the glove test. Ordered me some parts from FCP Euro and plan on taking a drive with the moonroof open and the windows down since the weather is beautiful. Have a great day everyone!
