Brake pad overhanging rotor??

Post by JMD77 »

Irritating me. Doesn’t look normal. Puzzled. New EBC rotors and pads. New caliper. The rotors are the same size as factory. Calipers seem an exact match. Everything bolted up easily and is torqued to spec. Overhang seen below is approx 3/8” or so. Thoughts?

I agree, doesn’t seem right. If the rotor and caliper are the correct dimensions, then it’s in the pad, which makes it an easier thing to fix.

Someone sent you the wrong part number, off by a digit?

Thanks. Yeah I compared the pad to the old one and they’re exact. I don’t know. I’ll measure the rotors more precisely. As far as I know there’s just 2 options on this vehicle. 286 and 300 something. I definitely do not have the bigger rotors. Perhaps some manufacturers make rotors that could be a few mm off?

I did also replace the strut and end link as well as the cv axle. I’m unsure that any of that could impact this issue. Would seem not.

Ugh. Don’t like that at all. Maybe compare rotors?

280mm and 305 mm are the p80 variants

Well, finally took it back off and wouldn’t you know the mounting bracket is a diff part number and slightly “taller” that what was on there. Caliper looks identical, thought. Guess I’ll put the old bracket on and go with the new caliper. New Caliper and bracket came together, attached.

Yeah, I put on power stops in the rear and those included brackets. Couldn’t find that brand for front so went with ultra power something or other. Also had the bracket. Identical at first glance but definitely the wrong bracket. Bolts up perfectly, just too tall

Ultra Power with bracket may have ASSUMED the larger rotors. Stuff happens.

Maybe P2's have 3 diameters like P1's. They use the same brackets and calipers I believe with the 2 smaller diameters but the largest version has a different caliper and bracket. Now I have to go check!

Again good catch!

Try reinstalling an old rotor with the new pads and calipers. That should help identify the culprit.
