I have an 850, on starting the ABS light stays on and the headlights will not come on or if in day time the indicators won't work until you get the ABS light to go off. I'm not sure what I did to get the ABS light off when it happened to me but my wife thinks it went off when she pumped the brakes!
Any ideas

I had a similar problem with my 96 850. The ABS light came on and the headlights were off. I could pump the brakes and the headlights would come on and the ABS light would go out. I also was not able to move the gear selector out of the neutral position while this was going on. If I pressed the shift-lock over-ride button, that too would clear up the problem. I had the problem 4 or 5 times over the course of about two weeks, but it has not happened in the last two weeks. I checked to see if any trouble codes were set, but they were not. I looked at a wiring print briefly, but I could not find any connection between all these systems that I thought might cause this problem. Now that the problem has at least temporally gone away, it is going to be hard to troubleshoot. I know this probably does not help much, but I too am curious to see if anyone else has had this problem and knows of a solution.
Thanks,
Tommy

Sounds like gear position sensor or brake sensor playing tricks with you.

Thanks for the advice; will either one of those cause the headlights not to come on?

That I can't explain. It's shift-lock comment that made me think of gear selector or brake pos. sensor.
