2006 XC90 4.4 v8 passenger seat belt removal from seat

Post by EuroTrash45 »

I'll start this off by saying this is my first volvo I've ever owned so im learning all the quirks the first time. So the issue im having is that I've currently got the drivers and passengers carpet out of the vehicle as well as the second row seats out due to the previous owner neglecting to take care of the sunroof leak. There was probably about 4 inches of water under the carpets which are now outside drying out. For the life of me I cannot figure out how to disconect the passenger seat belt and the passenger side seat trim from the passenger front seat. As I dont want to risk breaking anything I haven't gone ripping everything apart just yet and in all the diagrams on AllData and volvos website I just cannot figure out how it comes apart. Has anybody removed the seat belt and trim from the seat before, and if so what was the process for it. Any help would be appreciated.

Look at the picture. The back side will have a "c" shaped clip which you can lift up and then move the plastic slightly forward releasing the front hook.
I would pull the belt all the way out of the retractor and secure it safely at the pillar so it will not move entire length in...it will not be fun.
In terms of seat belt, I think it is secured in by bolt which is nicely covered with blue thread locker. Sorry it been a while. I would look into volvo oem parts catalog and pool diagram of what type bolt it uses.

Well im pulling the pillar of to re-apply the fabric on both sides since it's holding on by a thread and as far as I can tell the belt is secured with a rivet to the seat frame unlike the drivers side that had a torx bolt holding it in place. All the diagrams I could find for the passenger side seat didn't show anything pertaining to the belt

Sorry for this headache. I dont remember any rivets on any of my cars. Also was not able to find anything informative on parts catalog. This used unit from ebay shows all hardware which looks standard.

Cover comes off with a Torx T15, if it's original you'll need to cut a tie-wrap on the seat. These break all the time, progressive flex crack as your butt slides onto and off the seat. Can see here for PNs if you need a replacement- https://www.volvocarslisleparts.com/a/V ... 37686.html

See the battery disconnect warning before messing with the belt on the vehicle side.

If this does not work for you, let me know.

Thanks for the help, I ended up undoing the bolt below that connection and fishing the airbag heness out of the seat. Battery has been disconnected for a while now as it needs to be replaced. Should be going back together with the car this weekend as the carpets have finally dried. I have quadruple checked for water intrusion and it's dry as a bone so hopefully I dont have to come this far apart again anytime soon!
