MIJ,
I had the 3 nuts I could find off, and it seemed loose but didn't want to come out. With all the dire SRS warnings, I didn't want to pull too hard. Maybe I'll give it another try and see if I can find where the rubbing wire was. You guys do great work. Thanks for everything.

That is so right on. This site is a microcosm of what the Internet should be. While I love the commercial aspects of the INTERNET the free flow of information and ideas is its greatest asset. I just wish there were more sites that put up technical documents like the site in Poland. I'm sure they are in some sort of copyright violation but those documents were extremely helpful - no - critical when I finally tracked down a short in my Platinum where the wiring harness was rubbing against a very sharp edge on the premium sound amplifier that chaffed the insulation. I found Volvo dealer work orders from over 2 years before I bought the car complaining of the same problem and they could not fix it. I go out of my way to document repairs hoping that it will help someone else down the line. Everyone should - it just makes the knowledge pool deeper. Is the internet great or what? A guy in Fairbanks gives a Polish site to a guy in VA, which let me finally locate the sucker.
Thant one is easy. Remove the three T-25 Torx screws from the lower dash panel and remove that panel. Using a 6" extension remove the three nuts that hold the knee bolster in place through the access holes on either side. As I recall there are two nuts on the inboard side but only one on the outboard side. Chances are that you will drop a nut into the bolster but it is easily removed. At that point it will seem that it doesn't want to come off but if you give it a good tug it will pop right out.If I have to go in, can anyone point me to a link that shows how the drivers side knee bolster comes out? Thanks fo all the help.
Ignore all of the SRS labels on the bolsters. I think the labels are there to tell you that you are getting close to the SRS, not that the bolsters have anything to do (electrically) with the SRS itself.
I'm glad you fixed your problem.
