2020 V60 SPA Vehicle does not recognize key fobs

Post by ljsommar1 »

I am aware that I am not in the correct department but I have a newer SPA car (2020 V60) that will not recognize either key fob. After checking and replacing the fob batteries, I am confident that the fob batteries nor battery connections are at fault, any ideas? The fob will not lock or unlock car and when you attempt to start it, the dashboard says key not present.
I rarely drive this car but my wife tells me that the problem was intermittent but now the car can't be started at all. When I researched this problem, I saw the vehicle battery charge questioned but that did not help. I am somewhat electronics savvy but my experience with SMT is rather limited.
What module is responsible for recognizing the fob and where is it located, perhaps the glove box or mirror? I have read both.
Sorry for posting in the wrong section but the newer car sections see almost no traffic.

I would go to advance auto and utilize their "key fob tester". It is mostly suppose to tell you the state of your battery fob charge, but by default will tell you if your fob is sending signal or not. You did the 1st step with replacing the battery(off course it was a new battery), now lets check if the fob is transmitting signal. If you have good signal out of the fob, then I would research deeper the location of receiver antenna (likely rearview mirror), but easy and cheap tests are first.

I was not aware such a tester existed. I will call advance auto. I presume both the car and fob are required to test?

I don't mean to be pessimistic but I'm doubtful that Advance will help you. @yagger is the guy you need to troubleshoot a potential immobilizer issue if you don't want to spend a fortune at the dealership.

Sorry, I am probably 100% wrong with my suggestion above. That suggestion would only be helpful in case you have only 1 remote and it is giving you a problem. I misread the fact that "either remote" was not working. The chance that both fobs are not working is minimal.
Based on my quick research there might be 4 antennas responsible for remote lock/unlock in the car. I would honestly vote to bring the car to the dealer and let them tell you what needs to be done to bring the system back.

It might be time to check the condition of the vehicle batteries (which would include the small auxiliary battery).

Chrism, I guess you misread the original post same as me. Person indicated that "battery charge" was not the issue.
So if "lock/unlock" is not working and car does not recognize the "key" as being present it all suggest immobilizer system. Maybe someone can help with location of the fuse that is responsible for immobilizer.
Another quick search. Maybe it can help
"On a 2020 Volvo V90, the electronic immobilizer is designed to prevent the car from being started without the correct remote key. If the car key is not detected when you try to start the vehicle, a message will appear indicating this.
In such cases, you will need to place the remote control key on the key symbol in the backup reader, which is located in the bottom of the cup holder in the tunnel console.
This method is also used to deactivate the alarm if it has been triggered by unlocking the car with the key blade.
In summary, the immobilizer function is tied to the key detection system, and the backup reader for the key is located in the cup holder. "

I was doubtful but I called several Advanced Auto stores, none had even heard of such a tester. Plus neither fob is working. To start the car, I have to put the fob in that special place and then I am able to start it but the remote still does not work.
I no longer have a working Vida setup but I do have a DICE unit which I presume is functional, so is Yagger an option for me?
Oh yea, I guess I will search for and check the fuse but I I don't see much likelihood for a resolution there.

So, after some research it appears that there is not a separate fuse for the immobilizer it is included in the fuse for the CEM. I'm pretty sure that has to be functional, so I think it's the dealer or @yagger. I will see if I can find out how to contact him.
