I no longer have a working Vida setup but I do have a DICE unit which I presume is functional, so is Yagger an option for me?
Oh yea, I guess I will search for and check the fuse but I I don't see much likelihood for a resolution there.
.
Not sure if it's still available but it was a plastic stand around 8.5" x 11" and on it a device with a LED light to indicate FOB signal. When you push your FOB the light will come on if there is a signal. Walmart or the big box hardware used to have them also if my memory serves me right.
.
Blessings,

I sent an email to yagger/doublebug which did I did not get a response to, so I called. Cars after 2016 need to be in their shop, they cannot do remotely. So unfortunately it's the dealer for this.

I am not at all understanding how the car starts when the key is put in the special place. There is still no hard connection. Maybe an understanding of this might give a clue as to what is wrong. Is the fact that it works there an indication that the batteries are not connected? The dealer says it is unlikely any module in the car is at fault. They are not saying as much, but listening between the lines, they think I damaged both fobs. $500 per fob.

Any chance the fob batteries are upside down?

No, I'm pretty dense but not that far gone. They fit in pretty tight, I'm not sure you could install them upside down, maybe if you tried hard. Also the batteries removed measured 3.0 and 2.9 volts, not exactly brand new but certainly good enough to work. I went ahead and replaced them with new in wrapper. They measured 3.1 volts.

$500 per fob is insane. I have no idea how you could damage your fobs without putting them in water, ect. Plus the chance that both fobs got damaged at the same time=0%. The service advisor needs to watch some "car porn" to better understand what he is talking about. I am willing to entertain the idea that module for some gremlin electrical reason dropped programming codes for both keys, so reprogram the original keys and charge 200-250 for such work(honestly will likely take them 20min to do it). I would bring the car to the dealer(or alternative volvobdealer if available) and pay for 1 hour diagnostic fee(standard practice $170-200) to diagnose the issue. Maybe your module lost power or ground and it is the issue. However without advanced level diagnostic tool it is hard to do anything here. Possibly anthena lost communication with module and that's why car is not opening/closing or starting. In terms of car starting when key is at cup holder location it is a "safenet" programming for such cases(think about it as old key hole to unlock transmission when battery dead from years ago).
P.s. at the same time. Applying the logic. Car starts when fob is at "special place" meaning that transponder inside the keyfob is intact and immobilizer recognizes it. If transponder is intact and car is not starting when key is inside the random place in a car-problem is with receiver and not transponder.

My thoughts also. I'd guess the fob cubby is a "near-field communication" protocol, where fob lock/unlock doors is traditional radio.
Help keep MVS on the web -> click sponsors' links here on MVS when you buy from them.

Also -> Amazon link
. Click that when you go to buy something on Amazon and MVS gets a cut!

so logically, in a P2 at least , the suspect would be the rear view mirror module. ?

P2 is archaic dinosaur at this point. Based on my research there are 4 antennas in this car. Without proper scan tool and extensive factory data, one will do more damage attempting to figure it out. At least I would pay dealer to diagnose this issue

I guess I mis-stated what the service guy said. He did not actually say they will be charging me $1000. The guy was too polite to say that I was an idiot and ruined two fobs but that is what he thinks. If they are bad, the charge is $500 per fob.
This dealership has a great reputation. The parts department has always treated me very well. The one and only time I used the service department was for my 2002 V70. I decided to have them do a “pre-purchase inspection” on that car. This was after we had owned it for 12 years or so. The car had 200,000 plus miles on it. They said the windshield wipers could be replaced, nothing else. I really do not think they are out to rip me.
I am just very uncomfortable being so much in the dark as to what is going on. The whole situation is very new for someone used to diagnosing and fixing everything myself, (with the help of all the fantastic people on this forum, that is).

I should know soon. I scheduled an appointment at the dealership for this coming Monday morning. Of course I will update.
