Volvo 2015 s60 spare water tank problem

Post by BekR23 »

Hello! My name is Bekir and I am writing to you from Istanbul, Turkey. I have a 2015 Volvo S60 diesel with automatic transmission. I have had a problem with water leaking from the auxiliary water tank drain for a long time. Many Volvo workshops in Istanbul and the technicians I hired could not solve the problem. They all said that the engine would be disassembled and the gasket was blown. Since there was no oil getting into the auxiliary water tank and only oil on the oil cap, I assumed that there was no gasket problem. If you have received a similar complaint, please let me know. I love my Volvo and am very happy with it. I am less interested in other vehicles but I do not know what to do about this problem. I could not find a technician in Istanbul who could solve this. Can you help me? The pictures show that the antifreeze around the auxiliary water tank is being forced out of the tank drain due to excessive pressure.

Hello. This forum has very limited number of members from outside North America(we dont have diesels) so not much experience with them. I hope your mechanics were able to explain to you based on what test they determined that engine needs mechanical work.
In a mean time, I am surprised why the leak is at the hose and not blowing through the cap of the expension tank. Expansion tank has a special cap allowing excess pressure to escape in case of overheating, overfilling...I would suggest to perform exhaust gasses in antifreeze test(tester will switch color if exhaust gasses are present in antifreeze). If test is positive- sorry, you need engine work. If test negative-next logical step is to connect pressure gauge throught adaptor in place of expension tank cap and see what pressure is in the system. If the pressure is in speck(usually expension cap would tell you pressure at which it whould open 13-16 psi?) If the oressure is below the spec-replace expension tank with the good used unit(maybe microcrack somewhere, maybe cap failed) and hopefully it will fix your problem.
