ps rack leak from top seal , any part no? for ZF 7853 501 162

Hi anyone know the top seal part no & where to source from? for ZF 7853 501 162 as my rack is leaking from there
I took the seal housing off zf 7832 565 , gently tapped out the old seal & bush, the seal is approx o/d 30 x i/d 18 mm
I did try a FEBEST 95GAY-20300506X seal but this part leaked too , inner diameter of seal too big hence the leak. Volvo no longer sell these seals, its a nice car so just need to fix this leak, am based in uk thanks

SC4 29x43x7 HNBR MARVEL/TW TGY 20x30x5/6 worked for me, 4 months no leak, but for me this was the seal. 2005 facelift rack no speed

The part number posted by dikidera seems to be far too large for the ZF top seal.

The part number you gave, is it the seal that sits on the bearing, or the upper seal?

I'm also looking for the correct part number of both seals.

In a hurry think I may have indeed given you the bigger seal, the other one I ordered together with that one was TGY 20x30x5/6. The larger one was for the seal separating the oil from entering the pinion gear.

The very upper seal is a washer seal, when you open up the top part there are 3 components, a cleaner/washer seal which is the top most seal that prevents dust and water from easily entering the rack(in the thread you linked I am holding it with my fingers), then you have the actual seal for which I gave the (incorrect at first)part number and later there is a metal seal(or bushing as you called it) which keeps them all in place.

My rack is a non speed sensitive ZF rack with the o-ring connections(facelift) held in by a plate, I know some racks have screw in connections. And my failed seal is that particular one, I measured it first with a caliper and found the exact one.

I have been leak free ever since, basically since end of March 2025. However you did mention you tried a seal with an 18mm inside diameter, which is smaller than the 20mm one I used.

Thanks! I just disasssembled my steering rack (also ZF) and can confirm the dimensions of this TGY seal. Seems like a standard BASL 20x30x5.

The upmost seal preventing dust and water to enter - where did you manage to purchase that? Any specs avaiialble? I have not found, yet.

Sadly no, mine was ok-ish so I simply reinstalled it. There are so many variants that you'd have to buy 20 seals to see which one is the correct one.
