Source for gasket between halves of thermostat housing?

Post by jrschwit »

Subject line says it all. FCPEuro and IPD inform that this gasket is not available separately. Any one know a source? My searching has been fruitless.

For an 02 V70 2.4T. Mine has been leaking for a while and just became so bad I cannot ignore it. I removed both halves from the car and it is definitely the intermediate gasket. Of course I can make one but given the narrow casting where the gasket seals, I don't trust homemade.

like this ? , its metal.
This is used but didn't leak, maybe you can apply a bit of high temp sealant. You can have it if you want, or try the boneyard.

Somewhat related, if you can't find the gasket...

And since Wahler brand is expensive at $95-$100, an alternative is Facet brand (made in Italy) assembly, about $55-$60 on eBay etc.

I installed the Facet Tstat assembly in my 2006 S60 2 yrs ago (in 2023). It has been flawless.

PS: I have some Tstat assembly lying around (replaced preventively)...I can check when I have time.

I replaced mine with this $26 cheapo, my thermostat was kaput.
This cheap version works great except the sensor was no good so I installed the old volvo one.

Jrschwit, were you able to remove the old gasket in one piece? If so, lay it on a sheet of new gasket material and lightly spray over it with some spray paint which will leave a ghost image on the new material. Cut out the new gasket with an exacto knife, starting with the interior cut first. Then do the exterior cut and the bolt holes. Depending on the bolt hole diameter you may be able to use a paper punch.
I’ve made many a gaskets this way.
