P2 S60 FWD REAR suspension discussion

Post by cn90 »

The 2006 S60 with 112K miles....

- On highway ride, it is smooth. No noise.

- At low speed (parking lot, driveway), it makes squeaky, rattling sound in the rear.
I jacked the rear up and shook the wheel etc and saw/heard nothing out of the ordinary.
The shock is stock, so I plan to replace it soon.

- What is everyone's experience in terms of which items need to be replaced at this age/mileage?

- I am posting some images to make the discussion easier...

Any work under will have parts cost and time associated with it. Systematically spray one bushing part at a time and test since it's a minor squeak. Use a petroleum lube as it may help the rubber to swell a little.

As for spring don't think it's necessary. 03 S80 T6 135K mi (Salvage Yard), 07 S60 2.5T 155K mi & 09 S60 2.5T 135K mi both in service have had no issues with springs.

Did replace one arm on the 09 as it was pretty bent when purchased. A quick DYI alignment after took care of it. Car probably bottomed out during a rocky road excursion as there many tucked in the shields and nooks and crannies in the suspension. The springs look good compared with rust on the other parts. Photo is one year after arm replacement.

Pretty stout cars as alignment just changed a smidge after being backed up into. Didn't bother tweaking it. Been almost two years will check again when Son returns from VA during the holidays. Door shut fine and windows still work.
