Positive 2001-2007 DIM repair tale

Post by Georgeandkira »

Merry Christmas to all...

Every element of my 2007 V70's DIM went nuts at 151,000 miles.
A Google search shows more repair shops have opened.
One shop in Georgia, USA is having a special on P2 DIM repair; $299. I expected triple that.
Shipping was not included in that price. The additional $42 I paid was for UPS shipping and their "$100 replacement insurance".
I don't think I'd go for the insurance again without researching it.
I went with this company as they repair various control cards and industrial displays.

I just finished reinstalling it. I am very happy.

Merry Xmas
Did they say what the problem was? or what they did? usually technicians like to explain the fix..

No they did not.

All the posts I've ever read about the DIM failing mentioned resoldering (reflowing) the many contacts on the 4 sides of a large integrated circuit.
However, when I mentioned sending it off for repair to a pal, he sent me links to "Ribbon Wire Replacement kits" available online for ~$75.

I had already sent it off and I doubt I'd've taken that route had I known about it.

I spent Christmas 2001 in Australia and think of it often.

I fixed both DIMs from my 2004 Volvos and both had problems with the smaller integrated circuits and a transistor. This video is good for the do-it-yourself'ers:
