General question that probably almost no-one has ever considered or thought necessary.
I have cleaned all the dirt and dust out of the folding door mirrors I am planning to fit to our 06 V70.
On removing the mirror glass, I see there are 2 plastic/nylon parts hinged to the back of the mirror glass on the inner end. I'm assuming they are to stabilize the mirror glass. They are designed to slide in 2 slides slots on the mirror assembly.
So the question. Should these be greased/lubed in anyway? It looked like there may have been something used in the distant past. Possibly a small amount of lithium grease, or maybe silicon grease?
Does anyone know??
Thanks,
Neil.

However, this glass is notorious for falling off as the glue slowly loses adhesiveness.
So if the glass is partially detached, then remove it, clean it and reglue it and let it cure for 24h.
I use "Shoegoo" ($6 at Ace Hardware) as the glue bc this stuff is used to glue the sole of the shoes. It is flexible when cold. It has worked great for me.
Note: when gluing it together, use some C-clamps and cardboard as cushion and gently clamp it so the glue adheres properly.

One is good, the other one has been reglued, but badly. I have to remove the mirror glass from the original mirrors to remove the mirror caps that are color coded to the car.
The badly glued one is not sitting correctly to the rear plastic. It will work but I can use one from the LH mirror currently on the car once I check the heating element is good.
Thanks for the heads up on lube or not. Strange thing is both mirrors looked like they may have had lithium white grease in a small amount as there was white residue.
Neil.

The P2 mirror also fit our 09 S80 3.2 currently not on the road due to my health. I did however replace the missing mirror. You can either replace the mirror glass or mirror assembly meaning the glass already attached to the black plastic backing plate, which those two tabs clip to and pivot on. On our 08 C30 we replaced the glass only as it was already pricey by itself. I opted for the assembly for the 09 S80. I think there were no grease on either the pivot nor flaps as dirt would accumulate turning the grease gritty. It's just a guide and serves no purpose for stability nor tightness. If the flaps are Teflon it's self lubricating.

I hear you on the price. I was also staggered by the number of mirror options offered. I like the ones that I think you have with the wide angle on the outer part to help see with blind spots.
Thanks,
Neil.

I have the 3" (no smaller) convex mirrors on all my cars including the Volvo's smaller mirrors. Got use to them, the larger and smaller while driving an Iveco bobtail years ago and just can't do without them now. I will see how this new mirror with built in wide angle works before deciding on installing the convex mirror. Not sure when I can get the car on the road however. Hope it's cheaper in Canada as I paid more last year.

I saw something similar on Amazon, it listed 2007/8 V70, but up here an 07 is a P2, and 08 is a P3. It did not list the S60 at all.
I may look at the mirror glass as Amazon won't ship up here on that part. I do have the current mirror glass I can transfer if necessary.
Appreciate the info!
Neil.

My 2007's driver's side mirror glass failed while driving...POOF, mirror gone! The backing matched MoVolvos' upper picture.
A $12 replacement mirror came with 4 double-sided adhesive disks (3M branded)....simple fix.

The glass on our C30 was vibrating. Took too long to have a look and fell off right before getting to it. Drove back and found someone had driven over it already. The new one came with double sided tapes also but we decided to squeeze some clear exterior door and window silicone in between the double sided tape for good measure.
