Hard cold start. Engine rough running for about to seconds, then fine. Temp gauge on dash normal.
At 37F ambient , ect connector shows infinite ohms, open circuit

Off we go , tools used

T40 torx thermostat cover bolts
9/16 fluted extractor socket
T27 torx cam cosmetic cover bolts
19mm open end
Pb blaster
Mapp gas

New ect sensor
2 new bolts

T 27 and clips release the cover, nice access on the RN motor

Bolts looked hood, so I put a bit of PB on them and they cracked….. but I grabbed the T40 R bit by mistake and snapped it off

Used Mapp to warm for 30 seconds and the 9/16 fluted extractor

Ect comes out with a 19 mm open end

Reuse those old bolts, no thanks

Lots of no seize on the bolts , top off coolant, and get Juno the dog to sign off on the paoerwork

New sensor showed 4300 ohms at 35-40F ambient

Volvo chart calls for something like this

I keep finding weird stuff on P80's all the time of variances I did not know of. I thought the 99 NA had an inlet CVVT solenoid. Was that only added to the NA motors in 2000?

1999 NA no VVT
1999 SE GLT Xc70 T5 R turbo exhaust only VVT

2000 NA intake VVT
2000 turbo exhaust VVT

That is a 'security Torx' with the hole in the middle - I think the only place you see them on Volvo is the MAF unit to housing bolts?
I just goofed and grabbed it from the kit, instead of the T40.

Its a Tekton, so lifetime warranty.
