850: new tweeter bracket adapter?

Post by CIK7 »

I was able to salvage the factory dash tweeter harness. I don't seem to be able to successfully salvage the Tweeter bracket. Too brittle even being careful. Who knows where I can find brackets or adapters for the tweeters?

Can you post a picture of what you mean by a tweeter bracket?

Thanks,

Neil.

Do you mean the bracket portion of the 6849410 speaker assembly? Pictures from a random website:

My speaker cones are shot, so I could use a solution for the entire assembly too.

I believe the connector housing is TE Connectivity 365057-3 for the speaker and 365058-3 for the car, 50 cents from Digi-Key, no big deal if you break the old brittle connector while working with the harness.

Yes. I completely broke one bracket and gave up on the second. I was attempting to remove just the square tweeter insert in order to replace with the included jbl tweeters from the seller.

Thank you for the offer. I remember that the bracket on the face lift has two push pins opposite each other while the 850 has 3 I think.

This is the '99 tweeter (P/N 3533623) from another random website:

Here are measurements of my '97 tweeter:

It looks like '99 to '97 substitution is a no-go, because the mounting hole locations have changed.

Is it the four double-headed tabs at the tweeter corners that are breaking? I think even if you get a new bracket, they're just going to break. The old plastic doesn't have any flex any more. Better to let them break, drill out the stubs, and attach the new tweeter to the bracket another way. Maybe RTV, or else machine screws and hex nuts with threadlocker.
