Oil Change question 2004 S80

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

Oil Change question 2004 S80

Post by Donmystic1 »

Thanks for the help with the synthetic oil question.

I have 49,900 miles and according to the book the next oil change is scheduled
for 52,500 miles. I am going on a trip longer than 2500 miles and I would like to change the oil before I leave so that I don"t have to do it on the road while traveling.

What happens to the oil trip sensor if I change the oil earlier than 7500 miles?
Will it come on anyway at 52,500 miles even though I don't need an oil change until 57,500 miles? Is there a way to reset it to the newer oil change mileage?

Thanks Don

Yes, the oil change (service) light comes on at scheduled intervals despite when you change your oil. It's easy enough to reset it yourself when it comes on. Personally, I think the 7500 mile intervals that Volvo recommends are too long and I change the oil in all of my Volvo's that run synthetic oil at a 5000 mile interval and just deal with the silly light.
