I was gonna see about a noise coming from my front right wheel, been living with it for some time but it was getting worse. I jacked up the car and it felt like the wheel was loose, like I thought the wheel was gonna come off. But the bolts were all torqued down and the main center bolt also was still torqued. So I guess the wheel bearing is totally and utterly shot. Car is "grounded" for now, don't dare drive it further until I get it fixed.

Luckily I should have my Saab 900 ready for driving soon so I got a car to drive.

I changed the oil in Blue Steel this week after 6,000 miles, noting that the last time was in March 2024.

Yesterday, after a drive to Queens and back, I heard a strange clacking sound on the highway. When I got home, I noticed that the Volvo windshield trim seal had almost completely ripped off. It was only a couple of years old!

Home from an interesting holiday trip, left without much preparation and had only driven the car for about an hour since doing a ton of work (headgasket, rear axle, engine mounts...)

- rear spring lower perch had the tab broke off, so it kept coming loose and rattling around. Threadlocker and ugga duggas fixed it

- after driving 700km i realized the rear end noises werent just the spring perch, but also the sway bar was hanging down there, the two bolts holding it on the RH side were gone

no wonder it handled like shit on mountain roads !
Zip tied it back on, got new bolts from the nearest hardware store, bent a cycling wrench to hold the bolts from the back, got it back together with threadlocker and nylstop nuts

- brake light bulb blew literaly 2min after fixing the sway bar

- still loosing a ton of coolant, I went through 7 litres in ~2000km. Seems to be the radiator (Nissen, replaced in 2019), it held till the end but I've ordered a new one

- horrible low speed screeching from the rear brakes is back, i've ordered new rotors/pads. Had to avoid getting back to the campsite too late

- under heavy loads it stutters and misses quite violently, was still driveable and didnt get worse so I didnt do too much diag. I'm thinking either weak ignition or vacuum/boost control issue

Needless to say the tools didnt leave the passenger side footwell all week long

You can temp fix that with tape , good for a month or two in summer. Black RTV will make a nice glue and seal. Make sure you get a good bead on the top to keep water out.

FYI…I’ve got a dolly now an hour east of you if you ever need to move anything inop.

Something new I'll need to observe. Misfiring on startup that went away after about 20 seconds.

Time to refresh the ignition system perhaps?

If you have the air pump sometimes you hear fuel firing in the exhaust which sounds like a misfire. It ends in 28 seconds

I have found some very good stuff on Amazon, mostly sold as "t shape adhesive 3m trim" that works for this spot, as well as on the hatch under the glass and on top with the glass. It's held up for over a year with no fading, through plenty of carwashes.

I'll be in a black XC tomorrow at lime rock, hope to see some people there. My friend is currently trying to get his car running right now and another can't make it, otherwise we'd have two more p80s making a showing. If I could tow all the "Soon™" projects we'd probably fill the track.

RIP all the cars that never had a chance to make it.

The listing I bought from are no longer available but these are the sizes and similar product. I don't know if that shortened URL kept the affiliate link but the keywords are "t-shape windshield seal trim". I forget if the 14 or 19 mm are what I used but there's probably enough places on the car to use both sizes.

My car decided to pour all the mysteriously disappearing coolant out from the under tray where it had been hiding down onto the ground at Limerock today, which seemed to be amusing people every time I happened to go look at my car.
