OEM "Like" Bluetooth Microphone

Few months ago I installed an Android HeadUnit radio with all the modern infotainment features, including hands free calling. Problem is the microphone hangs from the headliner and looks bad. I remembered early versions of the S60 had a built in phone option and the doom light still has a mic grill, so I opened it up to see if it was possible to install the mic there.

Found the old microphone holder

Just needed to figure out how to install a mic, luckily I have a 3d printer and created this.

Fully assembled, w/ mic. The hot glue is for strain relief so the wires don't break due to vibration. The mic is the one that came with the head unit, using wire cutters I removed the mic from the plastic boom.

I'll install everything later tonight and add a few more installation pictures!

Got around to installing it this evening. Looks OEM!!!

Installation wasn't to difficult, I had to loosen black doom bracket to feed mic wire. Using a 12 gauge solid wire I fished the wire through to the windshield and then taped the mic wire and pulled everything through.

I removed the A-pillar to run the wire down behind the dash. OrageX has a great instructional video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X2fi1r9eZQA. Every few inches I taped the wire to the existing wire harness.

Finished look!!

I did this exact job today. Everything was going great until I lost the plastic microphone mount. In the span of 5 mins I lost it never to be found. I just don't understand what portal to hell swallowed it up. Anyway I like your method here keeping it OEM. If I ever find that plastic piece I'll be sure to 3d print an insert. Great idea and excellent follow through.

I saw this thread and I am mounting the microphone for an android headunit right now. I like the way you did and think also, the OEM place will be the best location.
Did you share your 3D construction on a plattform or do you tell me the measures you used for this adapter? Didn‘t you ever have some noise inputs? I am scared that there could be some vibration noise…
