Agree, the biggest issue is the lever/expander that gets frozen with rust and dirt. However, I wouldn't pass on the shoes being an issue because they could become a problem on their own breaking off friction material (I've had this happen) or becoming an issue due to the sticking expanders.

Old post i realize, but i am having a problem removing my rotors after removing caliper and it's mounting bracket. Seems the ebrake shoes have worn a lip on the drum section of the rotor....anybody else have this problem? I've exposed the adjust that runs along the console. Haven't removed the clip yet but guessing I should put a pair of vice grips on the forward part of the rod(where the write up says to lever up more threads to tighten), pushing it to rear and that should slacken the adjuster cable to allow removal removal of old rotor? 2006 Xc90 2.5T. Thanks for any input.

Mine were tough to come off, lots of rust. If I recall right I disconnected the ABS sensor from the axle, disconnected the battery and gave the rotor a good beating with a ball peen hammer.DeeSi wrote: 20 Jun 2026, 14:08 Old post i realize, but i am having a problem removing my rotors after removing caliper and it's mounting bracket. My parking brake was rusted solid and inoperative. Had to sand and loosen up the mechanism to get it functioning again. My kit did not have springs for the shoes, plan on replacing them.

My ebrake works great and i was hoping to not even touch it as long as it looked ok when i took off the rotor. Problem is the rotor cannot come off because the ebrake shoe has worn a ridge into the drum section and it will not break free. I'm thinking I need to back off the ebrake cable to take the tension off the shoes so they can retract. Btw, i need to replace a frozen caliper and the rotors need replacing too.thank you for the ideas!
