Side bar. I managed to remove the ETM on my turbo model without removing the intake manifold
This all hinges on where the installer left the induction hose clamp screw for the hose to ETM…if it’s facing forward and you can get a 7mm socket on it, you are golden. If you cam see it, the hose blocks access to the m6 10mm hex screws, 4x , so see if you can get thst off.
Procedure
Remove ECU cooling hose - no tools
Remove cold air duct and manifold to air cleaner - no tools
12mm hex, release dipstick bolt , lift dipstick tube, evaluate seal on end
Unplug three connectors from the relay board above the radiator. Careful with the middle one, those wires are thin amd will break
Unsnap the relay plastic and lift it off radiator shroud
Use screwdriver or 7mm hex to release both hose clamps and remove induction hose to top of intercooler
Disconnect three wiring harnesses that cross over radiator and lay them out of the way
Slip the evap line off the clip on the shroud
Unscrew 2 t27 screws that secure the radiator fan mounting
Unscrew the top two t27 screws holding the fan into the housing I had to use a bare torx t27 socket with a 1/4 wrench fir clearance
Lift and clear fan to rear, then wiggle the whole shroud out
You can go under the ETM with a stubby ratchet and 10mm long socket , I jacked up and did it ftom underneath with a power tool and extensions..about 20 inch total, going up right behind subframe. No need to remove airguide
I cut my ETM wire as it is dead. Otherwise you have to remove the starter to clear the connector.

Anndddd...........................Did it work?
I have not ever removed the inlet manifold to remove an ETM on a P80 turbo. Now, refitting is not fun.

The original ETM was completely dead to power on self test (POST) THE UBG replacement did the POST perfectly.
I confess I cut the cable in the old one rather than remove the starter

Well it is unlikely to be rebuilt, and that allows you to re-route the cable in front of the starter should you need to access it ever again.

It’s insult to injury that the bracket that traps it was deleted on Volvos in 2002

Got the UBG ETM and new gasket on, installed fan shroud and fan. Should have her running tomorrow!
Bottom two fan bolts left loose so it’s easy to lift fan out after top bolts removal.

Got it all back together and fired up - much smoother.
Bunch of codes, warmed it up, cleared codes.
P0301 returned, only code.
Swapped in Used coil and plug - still coding.
Will try New coil New Plug

Coil D is cylinder 4 though, might have multiple issues going on but that's usually gonna be the coil itself. ETM is a possibility though, especially if it's getting throttle codes now. I know those can throw misfires when they fail.
The bad ETM was throwing misfires on cylinders 3- 4 - 5 which took me down a journey of fools diagnosing ignition parts
