Right headlight turns off-on-off by itself

2006 XC70. Is there a relay for the single light? It goes off, then comes back on so I don't suspect a fuse. After a few cycles it will stay on. No problem until I switched on high beams, but then did the same thing when on low beam.

I would suspect connector or wiring in this case. You can put a battery maintainer on, turn on headlights(no engine running) verify problem being present. Then remove the connector and verify what is missing(power/ground). Then can start slowly moving down the wire with "wiggle" check to see if the problem resolve. If yes, look at that area for wire that is compromised or connector loose/corroded ground.

Have a good look at the connector and the bulb. It might be worth just swapping bulbs to see if the problem moves.

If it does move , bulb.

If it does not move, or if it solves the problem, it’s a bad connector you have temporarily fixed for 3.14 months

Probably a loose connection. I had a similar issue and was able to get my hand in behind the housing and jostle it around a bit. That was a few months ago, has not been an issue since. You could also clean the connection surfaces off with some alcohol, if that doesn't do it.

My 2001 V70 (and 2001 Mercedes E320) had insulation problems on the wires right at the headlights. I think it is heat caused. Either IPD or FCP had repair ends for the wires if I remember correctly.

Are you running LED bulbs by any chance? They are known to burn the wiring harness inside the headlight unit and shut them off. Even if you are not using LED's worth checking the internal wiring on the headlight unit for burnt or shorting wires.

Several years ago I was having constant issues with headlight bulbs. I think I replaced the bulb socket (maybe with a ceramic?) and things have been good ever since.

I was able to manipulate the bulb connector wiring (very tight area) without removing bulb. Seems to be working now, sitting in driveway. Thanks.
