I've done very well over the years with my iCarsoft V2.0, but recently ebay'd it and have ordered a 4.0. The ability to add two other manufacturers for free is a real boon, can also cover my VW van and my daughters BMW at a much lesser cost than most 'all makes' units.

Yes, the 3.0 is similar to the 4.0. You are basically paying the extra for the 2 'free' add-on brands and touch screen. I have been thinking about the touch screen part. I'm not sure that is necessarily a good idea in a garage over good old buttons. More thinking needed. Thanks for your input. It seems those who have had the 2.0 have liked it a lot. I would have gone that route, but the limited bi-directional capabilities meant looking at the 3.0 and 4.0.

The 2.0 paid for itself first time I used it in anger by diagnosing a faulty ABS reluctor ring on my old XC90, thus saving more than its purchase price in dealer diagnostic costs.
When I bought the 2.0 the 3.0 hadn't been launched, so at the time it was the best available at sensible money. 7 years later things have moved on and now, as you say, affordable bi-directional gear is available, hence me thinking it's upgrade O'clock.
Indeed, the 3.0 would probably do me in terms of functionality but, as you say, tbe ability to add two other makes for zip is worth the little extra.
Im not fussed about either touchscreen or buttons, so long as it works. At the point of using a scanner im not going to be gloved up or wielding spanners so it won't be an issue for me. Others may feel differently on that.
