Radio Code, 1999 V40
I bought my V40 in March this year and the radio showed "CODE" Didn't have a copy of the code anywhere so went to local dealers (where car was originally purchased) who gave me a free print out from their database with the code on it. Tried it and it kept coming up "ERROR" until, inevitably, went back to "OFF". Does anyone have any ideas what I can try next?

...from the Radio Codes page. Let us know if this works. If your radio says OFF, leave the ignition on in the first position for 2 1/2 to 3 hours in order for it to display CODE. Or, as forum member Rhett says: In my 1996 850, I can clear the OFF state by pulling the fuse for the radio (#7 in my car). That's a bit simpler than leaving the ignition in I for a couple of hours -- particularly if you don't have a garage.

Thanks but have tried that. The problem seems to be that the radio is not recognising the given code. I don't think it is possible to change the code that was issued with the radio but.......?

So your problem is that you have the wrong code, not that you can't get past the OFF problem?
Call the dealer back. Make sure you have the right code.

It may be that the radio is a replacement so the code won't work. Give the dealer the serial number of the radio and he can run a code from that.
