Check/add a fan to the plastic tube running from firewall to ECM box, early years didn't have it. Or fabricate a holder for 12v computer fan and place it over the ECM.

VTI - I may do that in the future. At present I have the cover off entirely so I don't think it's a cooling issue that can be fixed by that now but in the future, I think that might be what I do. I took the plunge and ordered an ECM to see. Should have it in a week or two to see what it is. With my luck it'll still be something but a fun project for sure!

my 2004 has an ecm cooling fan, its hidden in the duct under the steering fluid bottle.
One time the fuse blew and it set codes all over the car.
earlier models don't have it.
some owners have installed a fan in the box.

If you have the CEM PCB exposed. Check for overheating MOSFETs. Especially on that 5V line.
I use the freezer to cool things down. I use to clean disassembled Amiga Keyboards in the dishwasher.

Is the ECM properly latched in? (The pink sliders fully locked home) If the sliders aren’t locked home then the contacts can’t fully engage.
