If the issue is noise, try a drop of oil on the shaft and forget about it for a year (or more)! For the money, it's unbeatable.
Otherwise I can't help, no recent experience with that part.

Nissens and TYC seem to be decent replacements on the later p80s

I think you have to be careful as I think there is are 2 different ones on earlier cars or cars with MCC v's ECC controllers. If you have no luck, I have units I have tested on the shelf. You didn't say (unless I missed it) which year this was for.
Good Luck!
Neil.

Hi all,
Thanks for the info. My two 96 850s should be updated. One's a base na that has the more-or-less manual controls and the smaller resistor pack, the other is a turbo. I didn't realize there's a difference in the fans.
I believe the turbo dash hvac control module on the turbo car isn't working, but I'm not sure because the resistor pack seems to have failed, but I can't test it because there's no signal from the controls to move vanes around, etc.
I have a fan control that works pretty well.
I've mentioned elsewhere that I'm sure the 30 amp circuit is overprotected causing the resistor pack to fry when the fan starts to drag on startup. My turbo 850 fan (that doesn't work with the dash controls) does drag on startup. The takeoff lead I use to run the fan controller has an inline fuse. The fan will run with a 25 amp fuse, but blows a 20 amp. It wouldn't blow the oem 30 amp on that circuit though, because the resistor goes out first.
The same thing happened on my 93 GLT. I replaced that fan with a new one (Nissans, maybe—thanks abscate for jogging my memory)
While I had the old one out of my 93 GLT, I did a comparison test new vs the old one that took out my resistor pack. Using jumper cables straight off the battery, the new fan lets just a tiny spark when I hot wire it and runs smoothly as it should; the old one that took out my resistor pack lets a fat spark on startup, but then runs fine. But at that stage of startup drag (okay, my theory, but the evidence seems good), they don't get to run b/c the resistor pack goes down first.
In my base 96 850, the heater fan and controls (which are mainly cable operated) have been working well. So I want to upgrade that fan before I use it this winter to avoid losing another resistor pack—then still needing a new fan, too.
If I ever get the GLT electronics working again, I'll never run more than 20 amps out of the fuse box (with a new fan) on that circuit.
There must be a way to fix those resistor packs. Any tips on that?
Bottom line: I need a couple of new fans—and then on the turbo work backwards from there.
Sorry for the ramble. Past my bed time!

Thanks, wheelsup for that pointer. I'm thinking I'll try the Garage-pro source, though I've not heard of them before. They must be a clearinghouse sourcing parts from different manufacturers. Current posted price is $53+

Just get a used one from the junkyard or eBay. I'd take a good used Genuine blower over a cheap aftermarket one.
