'00 S70 T5M Open the money pit!

Post by RussB »

Just picked up a 2000 S70 T5M. The car was originally purchased in Germany. I bought it with a few known "issues" Main problem is a bad ETM. I did order up a XeModex replacement today.

Figure I'll just pull the intake manifold to replace it, and do the PCV system while I'm in there. The car is due for its timing belt as well...just like that, I managed to drop a a grand on parts today

I see that the almost-new Koni yellows on my 850 will fit the S70, that's cool!

You might find it surprisingly clean. I replaced mine at 167000 miles and could have easily just cleaned and replaced. The thermostats get of the oil hose, kept hot by coolant, keeps the oil from sludging in my humble opinion.

That would be cool!

I have to think that the plastic parts are crumbly by now, and it sure looks a lot easier to replace the ETM with the manifold off. It will also give me the opportunity to have a look under there, perhaps clean the starter terminals

Are you getting out of the 850 game Russ, or keeping the 96 too?

My '96 is chock full of new parts, many that can be moved over to the S70. The 850 is starting to rust, and blew another head gasket. It leaks oil out from everywhere. The sun roof leaks, and the carpet is moldy. But it still runs good, and the A/C blows 38 deg cold air!

Time to harvest it and crush it! :(

and so it begins...intake manifold is out, new ETM on its way from Ontario, as are a slew of parts from FCP. Gonna be a busy weekend.

Hooking up those PCV coolant lines looks like it's gonna be a hassle

If you drop any intake manifold screws, Kally will tell you where to find them.....

Screws have been dropped, but recovered. The real test comes when I re-install everything and the screws fall into oblivion

Remember the bottoms go in first as the intake is notched ..the tops are easy to put in

A 1/4 inch socket set works much better than a 3/8 set in lots of places for this job.

This will be my 4th PCV system, first on an S70 Turbo. Here's the 1/4" drive 10mm flex socket and extension I use,
