98 V70 headlight lens replacement

Post by trammellclan3 »

I was wondering if anyone has any advice (and possibly some instructions) for replacing the headlight lens on my 98 V70. Is it a problem to just change the lens instead of replacing the entire headlight assembly?

Thanks!

Changing the lens is not too difficult.
There are about 8 or nine clips that hold the lens and gasket to the housing.
Since the bottom of the fixture is pretty tight against the bumper,
the whole operation is much simpler if you remove the entire assembly.

IIRC, there are 3 bolts that attach the headlight to the car.
Seems that I remember a walkthrough here or Bay 13...
It took about me an hour or so to pull mine and replace the lenses with eCode glass.

Check eBay, IPD and FCPGroton for new glass.

It's VERY easy to remove the headlights. Three 10MM bolts and a tug and you're finished.

I find it's easiest to remove the hood latches to get to the fender side bolt.

i have the scan tec E code lenses and they were like 45 or 50 a piece and they are still the 'hella' brand lenses if i recall correctly.

the lens looks fine to me. similar to the kit i got with the e-code ones.
I'm on for aesthetics as well and replaced both at the same time cause i cant stand one looking different

advice:
Keep the original gasket if its still good, and keep as many of the original clips because they seem nicer then the new ones provided.
