1995 940 Fault in exhaust emission control system

Post by dnatisdale »

Hi, I could use some help...I just purchased my 1st Volvo a week ago & now have a light in the dash come on. The Emission Control System lamp. The small booklet I have says I need to take it into the service center, but the center here is very expensive & not to honest as I have gathered from other Volvo owners. I don't have the manual but hope to in a month or so as I'm looking for one from the States or somewhere else. Is there one online that I can download?

My problem is that it is running rough at idle it surges & sometimes stalls. I had a mechanic look at it today but he suggested taking it to the svc. ctr. He couldn't find anything wrong with it. When I'm driving normally or with the air conditioning on it seems to be fine. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Dan

I have the emissions light on as well however I don't have a rough idle or stalling out of any kind. The emissions light is due to your o2 sensors not working (or maybe detecting some problem, but I think then the check engine light goes on).
Either way, you can run a car with a faulty o2 sensor, just means your computer isn't getting proper information on how much combustion your getting. My o2 sensor is 250 bucks for each one heh, so naturally it makes me wonder about changing it.
Anyways, if you do decide to change your o2 sensor, it's pretty easy, just unhook the wires, screw it out and screw the new one back in. It's on the exhaust system though so wait til everything is nice and cool naturally.

I also found online a store selling o2 sensors for only 120 at http://www.fcpeuro.com/
