fuel gauge problem 740 estate glt 1990

Hi everyone
I have a 740 glt estate 1990 and the fuel gauge keeps on swinging from side to side even when the tank is full,does anybody know what it may be ive tried to locate a sender unit at various breaker yards but had no luck,is there anyone who knows how to fix the problem or where i can get the parts from please

What is your location so we can advise the best place to obtain parts? By "estate" I am guessing the UK.

There is a good chance that the sender unit is past its best.

To save trawling through breakers' yards I always recommend:

They do not sell parts but will pass your requirements on to several new and used Volvo parts dealers who will contact you with availability and price. The service is usually first class and even used parts carry some sort of warranty.
