by too rich i dont mean myself. 96 850 turbo wagon check engine code read bank 1 too rich. o2 sensor correct?

Start by cleaning the MAF sensor. The chain auto parts stores have MAF cleaner that you just spray it on the element and let it dry. Don't scrub it or even touch it.

The O-2 sensor signal gets compared by the ECU to what it thinks is coming in (The MAF signal). If it gets the "what is coming in" part wrong it will be wrong on what it tries to correct and the O-2 sensor will hit its limit.

MAF cleaner is cheap and can't hurt anything if done properly - O-2 sensors are expensive.

I always start at cheap and easy!

However you probably DO need an 02 sensor

Check the elbow on the vacuum line behind the power steering pump. It is attached at the end of the intake manifold. If this elbow has a hole,it will set a code for too rich.
