Radio Code

Post by Bage »

I brought my car to the mechanic today. Its a Volvo 850, and it needed two front tires and a ball joint replacement. I got it back and didn't take notice of the radio since it was dark, raining, and rush hour and I just wanted to get home. I got home and realized the radio didn't turn itself on. I pushed power, and it says "CODE." Not realizing what this was I started to push buttons, I realized only the 1-6 preset buttons work. So by then I figure i'll try some codes. Mind you I bought this car used and it didn't come with a manuel, so this was my best chance. After 3 codes it goes to "OFF." I come inside and google the whole anti-theft radio lock, and find that its because the battery was disconnected, and that i'll have to go to a dealer, possibly pay them, just to get it working again.

I also figured I would try all possible combinations, but after completely unhooking the radio and rehooking it, it resumes its "OFF." So I obviously would have to unplug the battery each time I want to try to re-enter a code, and at 5555 possible and 3 times each, repeating that 1851 times doesn't seem appealing.

Does anyone know somewhere that I could find my radio code in the car? There were numbers behind the radio but they all had numbers greater than 6 in them, and since my numbers range from 1-6, they are null. This Anti-Theft thing is great if someone steals it but they really need a car recognition system too. Thanks in advance.

I'm doing a redesign to make that info more 'findable' by creating an 850 page, an S60 page, etc.
