Help !!!!! I just found a disconnected vacuum hose under the injector rail just above the power steering pump, lightly pulled on it and the whole thing came out ! I can find turbo diagrams, but nothing for the non turbos. Any ideas ?

Off the top of my head the only thing that I can think of in that area on a N/A is the fuel pressure regulator. Pop the cap off of the fuel rail and the regulator is on the end of the rail, more or less above the thermostat. To get the cover off of the fuel rail just grab it and lift up.

I found the connector on the intake, nice and tight. i pulled the fuel rail and still couldnt find where this hose connects.the other side seems to go toward the trans / air box assy. i think i hear a vacuum leak from under the p/s pump, but cant be sure.

One possibility is the connection on the intake manifold,(but methinks you found that one) left hand side when facing the engine, it is highlighted in red on this diagram, even though this is for a 98 turbo, it is just for position.
Did you take a peak at the diagram on the hood of the car near the passenger side hinge? You should have a diagram to guide you.

I can only find one vacuum line in that area of my 95 n/a, which runs to the "flame trap" of that air intake....under the injector rail just above the power steering pump...

Grandma had a vacuum leak repaired 3 yrs ago, according to volvo. they replaced the elbow and 3+ feet of vacuum line. Im thinking they may have left the old line in. After looking at all of the diagrams, there is only one line coming from that side. Also, the only code i occasionally throw is a p-410 code that i think have traced to the secondary air pump relay (cleaned contacts and no code for over 3k miles ) Thanks for all that have posted. i've learned very rapidly that old volvo owners are somewhat cultish. websights like this will keep this old girl running for a long while. THANKS !!!!!!!!!!

P.S. I inherited this car from my grandmother. my mother has a 1989 740 gl wagon with 200k. even though the interior is falling apart, I think the 740 will go alot longer than the 850.
