How can I reset the radio on a 1997 960

Post by lanie »

I recently had to disconnect the battery of my 1997 volvo 960 and the redio was reset, well unfortunately I did not type in the correct 4 diget code and it now displays off on the screen of the radio. I have waited for it to change and change and change and it still reads off instead of code, which I would then obviously enter the code. Does anyone know what to do to make the off go away and make code come back?

From the owner's manual (http://new.volvocars.com/ownersdocs/199 ... 60_000.htm):

"Incorrect code

If an incorrect code has been entered "rPt" is displayed. Enter the correct code.

After three unsuccessful coding attempts the set will lock and remain locked for two hours.
"OFF" is displayed.

During this waiting period:

the battery must be connected
the ignition key must be turned to position I
the unit must be turned on
Make sure the headlights are turned off to help prevent battery drain (please refer to page 2:6 for information on turning the headlights off). Enter the code again once this time has elapsed."

Although this might be the same or similar radio to FWD's, since a 960 is a RWD Volvo, I'm moving this to the correct section of the forum.

Same deal except it locks for 24 hours not 2 hours

I have a 1997 960. I was told that if you enter the wrong code three times, the radio will stay off for 24 hours. Also, the radio just needs to be in the car with a good battery. A timer in the radio will kick in after 24 hours and give you another chance to enter the correct code.

The information given by vegasjetskier is from the owner's manual which has only one misprint - the radio will not be locked for 2 hours it is 24 hours.
