Help, Advice, Owners' Discussion and DIY Tutorials on Volvo's stylish, distinctive P2 platform cars sold as model years 2001-2007 (North American market year designations).
Get your trouble codes read to make sure it's nothing truly serious, but at those miles you need to have your transmission fluid flushed now...be careful to use the correct fluid. Good write-up in the repair database here: https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums ... php?t=8767 Your mechanic can do it, but if you're handy- so can you. Btw, Volvo will tell you that your system is a closed system and thus your fluid never needs flushing, but this is bunk. Most transmission failures (right after the warranty has expired, btw) we see happen because it's not done.
you might not want to flush with 70K on it. on the other forums there have been horror stories about the flush breaking things loose like gunk and buildup that acually have become a sort of seal. most recomend the drain and fill method. do a search on Swedespeed or Volvo Forums, there have been a bunch of treads.
i have a '04 s60 2.5T also and know that we actually have a good tranny unlike some of the other years. but still, its not something to F*** with ya know......
I think you're okay to flush at 70K miles. Much more and it may be too late but I would be willing to flush my car up to about 90K personally (for the first flush). Once you begin flushing, you need to keep flushing every 30K miles or so.
