Brakes

Post by Guest »

So my car isn't under my ownership it's under my dad's. This makes it both annoying and tough when I need some service done. I drive a 97 950 t-5 and it's well out of warranty. My front pads and rotors need to be changed and I'm looking at some aftermarket stuff reasonably priced.

However, my dad wants to go with midas since they give life-time guarantees and if I have problems it will be easy to get fixed since they are a national company (side note: i'm away at college).

I'm trying to explain to him that generally speaking the midas parts are crap and the guarantee doesn't mean much on brakes. Usually, brakes are gonna go bad just through wear and tear and not anything major. I have had a frozen caliper, but that's a different story. Anyway, I just wanted to make sure I am right in my stance and any suggestions people would have to convince my father that aftermarket parts are actually good to use in this situation.

Ask 10 people and you'll get 10 different answers for brakes, but I'd go with OEM Volvo pads and do it yourself. Pads are easy. We can help.

Life time warranty sounds very good and therefore has to have a catch. The catch is labor, you have to pay the cost of labor which is the biggest portion, the pads that midas etc. use are not expensive at all.

Do the pads on your own and try to patiently convince dad. I am a dad myself and when my son talks to me with facts and patience then I do listen, try that on dad.
