1995 850T slowly leaking water from above the cat shield

Post by andrewrwc »

So after having my RMS changed due to leaks now I am getting a little bit of water leaking from somewhere, it collects onto the catalytic convertor shield and then seeps out through the mounting bolt/rubberthings on the passenger side about 2 feet back from the start of the shield (engine side). Im not sure of what all is required to remove to change the RMS but im assuming something wasnt put back together correctly or possibly moved/damaged during the work done. Its clear water, not antifreeze! Condensation without running the A/C? 1995 850 turbo 155k with no other issues. Any ideas? Thanks!

Two areas you might look at, although a bit of a stretch.
1)You mention the a/c and condensation ,have another look you might have a partial blockage, see post about blocked drain. The drain is under the car
https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums ... =1&t=15952

2) The windscreen wiper well cover has two rubber drain pipes which are prone to blockage as well. It might be rain water that is flowing slowly out of these pipes.

Thank you, I will check those things tomorrow and get back. I have not ran the A/C at all, but I did run the defrost/heat while on a 2hr freeway drive and after that is when I noticed the biggest puddle when I parked on an offcamber gas pump and it drained out one side. Thanks for the starting points!

Just so you know, if you run the defrost the A/c is actually on, it is sort of an overide in this mode only.... theres your condensation, I do not think you have to look any further.

Tailor is right. I don't think you need to worry any further. What you probably should do is just drive without the defrost on (AC "off" will be over ridden if you have the Climate Control on Defrost mode) - and thus MAKE SURE that it isn't actually anything but AC condensation.

Hopefully you have nothing to worry about. It's just weird that this isn't something that you have noticed before.
