PCV cleaning ?

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

PCV cleaning ?

Post by dcarlson12 »

Can you post the link re: the PCV?
From my VADIS it shows how to clean out the small hose/nipple for the PCV 'hosing' for the 1999 S80 T6 but the VADIS refers to removal of the intake manifold and then remove the 'pipe screw'. as per following:
"Crankcase ventilation, cleaning

Removing the intake manifold (B6284T)
Note! Note the position of the tie straps on the cable harness for the engine cooling fan (FC).
Remove the pipe screw. Lift out the intake manifold.

Removing the intake manifold (B52x4T)
Remove the pipe screw. Lift out the intake manifold.

Cleaning
Disconnect the hose (1) from the nipple.
Also detach the other end of the hose (1). Check that air flows through.
Blow the hose clean using compressed air (2). If the hose is blocked, use a welding rod (maximum Ø 2.3mm, approximately 250 mm long) to unblock the hose (1).
Clean the nipple using a Ø 2.3mm drill bit (3).
Install the hose on the nipple.

Installing the intake manifold (B6284T)
Install a new gasket for the intake manifold.
Lift in the intake manifold. Install the pipe screw using new gaskets.

Installing the intake manifold (B52x4T)
Install a new gasket for the intake manifold.
Lift in the intake manifold. Install the pipe screw using new gaskets"

Is it not possible to access the 'pipe screw' and remove it to access and clean the nipple without having to remove the entire intake manifold?

No, the intake manifold will have to be removed to access the oil separator (breather box, oil trap- whatever you want to call it) which sits firmly under the intake.
