Freezing temperatures outside: cool temperatures inside

Post by Brickwagon »

:? With the mid-atlantic region experiencing freezing temperatures (10 degrees and lower), my '94 850 Volvo NA is not heating the interior as it has in the past. The interior is slower to heat up the car, and the temperature is lower. The ice buildup from overnight on the windshield evaporates rather than melts even while driving in the sun for several hours.

Last winter, the car received severeal accolades on its heating/defrosting performance. I had the radiator replaced in the summer of '93, and I am fairly sure that the garage did not refill it with the dealer-recommended 50/50. (There was a leak while driving it back from the garage, and he came to my residence and refilled with pure anti-freeze.

No ecu codes, but I would like to be prepared for when the real winter storms and freezing temperatures overlap.

Any suggestions??? :)

Is the temperature guage getting up to the normal 3-oclock postition?

Try a 50-50 mix. I've heard that all anti freeze prevents the car from heating up completely....

I would suspect the thermostat - you temp guage will be your guide. If you have run the car for 15 minutes or more and the temp is not coming up to the normal range (midway of the guage) that will be the best clue that you need a new thermostat. Go to Matthew's home page and there is a very good step-by-step procedure that will show you how to change the thermostat for under $20.

'96 854 - died an early death with 184K miles. Killed by the front end of an LTD on a suicide mission (T-boned and both cars totaled).
