no brake lights s60 3rd light okay

hoping somebody can help here. i have checked the bulbs, the tailight housings, fuses under the hood and dash and trunk. still ahve no brake lights. grounds good. dash says to check bulbs also. thanks

Welcome to MVS. Are you saying that the third light comes on but the side ones don't? I have seen where everything seems fine but the contacts in the bulb socket don't make good contact. On our V70 this happens about every 6 months and a good whack on the outside lens restores functioning. I know if I were to take the bulb out and use an emery board on the contacts it would probably quit doing this. Of course I could be way off but maybe not.

If you have a voltmeter or a trouble light I'd check for power at the socket. I've also read previously that the circuits for the center light is entirely different (for safety) than the edge ones. So perhaps a fuse issue or contact issue at the brake pedal switch? Checking for power at the switch should give a good clue to which way to go. This will also determine if MIJ's suggestion of corrosion may be correct.
