240 wiring loom - need to split it!

Post by GPZ900R »

I'm currently stripping out part of the interior (1988 240GLT estate) to enable a small patch to be welded on the floor, just inside the nearside sill, under the passenger seat. Its not a lot to weld but I need to remove electrical wiring from that area - it runs from the passenger footwell, underneath a galvanised plate then along the inside of the sill underneath the seat support x member and back around the rear wheel arch.

Problem is I can't see an easy block connection point to split the loom. I could disconnect around a dozen connectors under the dash, but that seems a lot of work (and there's one I haven't found yet!). Or the rear wheel arch connector if I knew where it was - can't see it yet.

Beginning to think I might be easiest just to cut the loom in the rear footwell, where it has fewest wires, but don't really want to do that if there is a "proper" block connector somewhere.

Any clues appreciated.

Iain

I think Plan B, cutting the harness, may be the only way.

VADIS shows the bottom rail harness in one piece from front to back. Two different wiring diagrams that I have checked make no mention of any connection blocks on that run.

This is the VADIS diagram:

Excellent Bill - many thanks - yes the loom is indeed in one piece from around the fusebox right back the the tail lights and tailgate hinge connectors. After much headscratching (must have a shower  ) and mucking around with rear wheelarch inner panels (including a small metal one which unscrews to reval more solid wiring), I've disconnected all the front footwell connectors and a couple of screwed in earths. Did however have to cut 3 ( :P !!!) wires which are in part of the loom which disappears off to the right into the inaccessible heater/central console area. All wiring and connectors now pulled through the "tunnel" under the seat and ready for welding prep'n. Good outcome and good practice for my father's 1989 340GL which currently sits in the driveway (front end shot to bits under the radiator - job for the Spring).

cheers
