2001 XC wagon

I have a 2001 xc wagon. Sometimes when I start the engine I cannot shift it out of park. At times it will work the second or third time I re-start it, others it takes a half hour or so. It has been to the dealer 4 times amd each time they claim to have fixed it. Any ideas??

I agree...should be a simple PNP switch replacement...about 30 minutes and about $200 for the part from the dealer...or $175 for the part (or maybe less

) and free labor if you want to tackle it yourself.

there is a solenoid in below your shifter you should be able to hear it when you hit your brake pedal. many times they get stuck from spilled coffee or soda
